Evening Primrose (Oenothera biennis)


Evening Primrose is a biennial flowering plant known for its bright yellow, cup-shaped blooms that open in the evening and have a lovely fragrance. It typically grows 2 to 5 feet tall and is native to North America. The flowers attract nocturnal pollinators like moths and are also known for their edible roots and seeds.


Sowing Indoors: Start seeds 6-8 weeks before the last frost or sow them directly outdoors in early spring.
 
Location: Prefers full sun but can tolerate partial shade.

Soil:Thrives in well-drained, sandy, or loamy soil; drought-tolerant once established.

Watering: Water regularly during dry periods, but avoid overwatering.

Growth: Blooms from early summer to fall. The first year produces foliage, with flowers appearing in the second year.

Care: Minimal maintenance required; deadhead spent flowers to promote longer blooming.

Evening Primrose is an attractive and low-maintenance plant, making it an excellent addition to gardens for both its beauty and ecological benefits, medicinal plant, eat young leaves and flowers, add seeds to bread or smoothies. Easily self seeds and takes over so give it plenty of space.
