This brilliant red-orange, teardrop-shaped squash is a traditional vegetable from Japan. It looks like a small pumpkin without the ridges. 'Kuri' means chestnut in Japanese, a reference to the delicious nutty flavour of its deep orange, smooth firm flesh. This winter squash matures early, producing generous yields of teardrop–shaped fruits that store exceptionally well. I have tried growing many types of squashes and pumpkins over the years and now solely grow ‘Uchiki Kuri’ for its reliability in the west of Ireland and its exceptional flavour, texture and storage.
