Amy Sweet Pepper

I first grew this in the UK in North Yorkshire which is renowned for its poor summers. It was obtained originally from Realseed UK which grow them in Wales. Little did I know then I would be re-locating to Ireland which has a similarly grey climate and short summer!.

This was one of my first attempts at growing sweet peppers and I have saved the seeds for several years.

It is a charming pepper plant which is hugely productive for its small size. It only grows to about 18 in to 2 feet in height so is ideally suited to growing in a decent sized pot. Like all peppers, yield will be increased if some well rotted manure is added to the compost or chicken poo pellets, bonemeal or similar. Indeed, I have found over the years, that incorporating a really rich soil to the pot or bed right at the start, makes a huge difference to yield in both peppers and tomatoes, which cannot be compensated for by later additions of liquid fertilizer alone.

The fruits are smaller than the usual supermarket offerings, but they have a charming pointed shape, thick fleshy walls and are a deep red when ripe. They also keep well on the plant.

If you are a beginner to pepper growing this variety is ideal. I have grown it both in my double glazed front porch (south facing) and in a polycarbonate greenhouse.

Price for 20 seed.
