This is a rare and unusual french bean which I sourced from Realseed in the UK several years ago.
This really is a fantastic variety because of its taste/texture; it never goes stringy no matter how long you leave it on the plant!. (Honestly!) Indeed, the best time to pick it is when it is chock full of beans to benefit from the lovely buttery texture. The flavour is also outstanding.
The pods are also a really attractive mottled colour, which makes them easy to spot on the plant. It does however go green when cooked. The seeds have some variation in that some of them take on a darker mottled colour, which results in slightly darker pods, but I have not intentionally crossed it with any of my other varieties.
I grow this in a polycarbonate greenhouse, but have also grown it in an 11 foot porch. It is a tall variety so will need the usual cane or netting support.
You will want to keep the seeds of this variety every year because it is difficult to source and so tasty!
